First Week of Sociology

After a week of sociology I already can tell that it will be my favorite class of my high school career because it is very relatable and has to do with every single person in my school.  After we played the game where we have three people go in front of the room and the class votes out loud on three words that describe each student, my view on society changed.  I didn't realize it at first, but making those judgements about my peers without really even knowing them that well is something that myself, and everyone else around me does daily without even thinking about how wrong we may be.  Another thing that shocked me was when my teacher read aloud all of the stereotypes that our class had written down and even though all of us think of them and use them in our lives, just hearing some of them out loud made me feel horrible for every saying or thinking them.  The fact that we judge and stereotype people without even speaking to them is horrible to me and from now I have truly been trying to not judge a book by its cover and decide what you think of a person after actually getting to know them. I enjoyed my first week of sociology and already have new perspectives on people and the way people judge others.

First Day of Class

I thought that the first day wasn't very uncomfortable when my teacher wasn't talking because after a little bit I realized what was going on.  Since I have some prior knowledge of what the study of sociology is, I realized that my teacher was trying to see how we would react to the long silence.  Since sociology is about the study of people and their habits, I knew my teacher would be taking notes about each student based on whether they talked or not, or if the were whispering, or if they just sat there.  Overall, the first day for me showed me what this class is going to be all about.
